Nick Demetrious
Business Analyst
Nick Demetrious is a business analyst at AEGIS London. His role is to act as a bridge between the technical and non-technical parts of the business, ensuring that IT systems and platforms are designed and built to perform well for all users.
Read Nick's profile
Having done a Computing and Business degree at university, Nick knew he had good technical and analytical skills. But he wanted to work in an industry that would reward people like him who were also great communicators and team players. While banking did not live up to expectations, insurance certainly has.
The project which means the most to Nick is his work on a digital claims portal for AEGIS London’s online platform, OPAL. Using the system, brokers can submit, update and track the progress of claims and have a direct communication feed to the Third-Party Assessors that are processing their claim.
What Nick particularly likes is that his work is making an impact.
He explains: “Banking was about just smoothing internal processes, but here I’m creating platforms that real people will see and use. It’s rewarding to know so many people are using something I helped to build.”
Working on business-critical projects is not without challenge however and often stakeholders will hold different views. His role is to get the right people in the room, ensure every voice is heard and set out the facts so the business can reach the right decision. This means Nick has to draw on all the skills he thinks are essential for this job: analytics, communication, technical knowledge and team working.
He explains: “You need the kind of mind where you question things and are good at problem solving and critical thinking. You need to know how systems and online platforms work, especially in an increasingly digital world and you have to be able to get people onto the same page.”
Nick is looking ahead to a lifetime career in insurance and is delighted there is no limit to the ambition of teams wanting to build their online presence. In his words: “The industry has a long way to go and there’s always something different going on.”
